Quilt Preparation
To ensure a smoother quilting process, I recommend the following steps to prepare your quilt.
- Trim and remove all basting seams and excess threads.
- Press your quilt, making sure all seams are flat and sewn securely. Take a look at your borders to ensure they lay flat with no extra fabric causing it to be wavy.
- The quilt top, batting and backing should be separated. NOT basted together.
- If you have to piece the backing, it’s best for the seam to run horizontally.
- Carefully measure all sides of your quilt top ensuring the top and bottom are the same and both sides are the same.
- The backing and batting must be 8 inches larger than the top and bottom measurements and 8 inches larger than the side measurements. This will give me 4 inches on all sides as extra.
